5 Fail-Proof Strategies for Finding Your Profitable Course Topic and Idea

5 Fail-Proof Strategies for Finding Your Profitable Course Topic and Idea

For the past few years, the majority of my income has come from online courses.

They are literally the perfect product.

  • Scalable
  • Passive
  • Fun to make
  • Premium pricing
  • have an impact
  • help more people

...the list goes on!

After years of being an entrepreneur - running businesses of all kinds (physical products, service businesses, design/architecture, consulting - all of it) - I discovered online courses.

And within months I was making more money with less work than ever before.

I’ve never looked back.

And now online courses are the only thing I’ll spend time building.

Online courses literally ARE my business.

Today, I’m going to show you how to come up with a profitable course topic idea. This really is step 1 in the process of creating and launching a course.

TFS 041: How To Make Money With Webinars

"How do you make money with webinars?"

When I tell people how webinars have benefited my business, they seem incredulous.

I’m making more in a week than most people make in a month with regular marketing methods.

But all these “numbers” - what do they mean?

I mean, do you have to already have a huge list to make this work? (hint: nope!). How many people can you expect to show up to your webinars?

Today I’m going to break down for you how I used webinars to "pre-launch" a product in about a month. I had an idea, a concept, and I was pre-selling. I was “gauging interest”.

6 Tips for a Successful Brand Photoshoot with Paige of Studio Bicyclette

6 Tips for a Successful Brand Photoshoot with Paige of Studio Bicyclette

I am SO EXCITED to be sharing this guest post with you today from my friend and Course Coven masterminder Paige Boersma from Studio Bicyclette (yes her website is amazing!)

I have been planning for my own brand photos and I always struggle with this, so I asked Paige to share her tips with me and I could NOT keep them to myself! If you're struggling to figure out what the heck your brand is or how to turn "visual ideas" into real-life photos that feel like YOU, read this!

And lucky for you, Paige has a cheatsheet you can download full of ideas for your own photoshoot. I am using this in my shoot coming up!

I'll let Paige take it from here!

A brand is more than a set of brand collateral. More than your logo, your colour palette and your website - it is an experience, and your visuals should help communicate that and showcase your brand style no matter what the touchpoint is, immersing your audience within your story and including them on the journey.

And how do we do that? Through a styled brand photoshoot.

There should be visual consistency at every brand touchpoint so that your audience “gets” that it’s your brand because of consistency in the colour palette, the tone, the voice and the visuals, while all tying back to your brand vision and values.

4 Marketing Experiments We're Testing to Grow Our Business

4 Marketing Experiments We're Testing to Grow Our Business

In this video we’re talking about 4 new marketing experiments we’re doing to grow our brand and exposure for our business.

To be honest, we’ve been feeling a little stuck lately.

We had been feeling like we had just been doing more of the same-old, same old: more webinars, more blog posts, more of the same. And doing the same thing over and over brings the same results (great results in our case - our business is killing it. But the “same” month after month). We are ready to do another big push and take it to the next level again.

We also hit a plateau in the number of new subscribers and readers we were adding every month. Again, we were still adding thousands of subscribers - but it was the same “rate of growth” as the month before.

So it’s time for a change. Time to take new risks and do some experiments.

Our goal is to honestly just connect better with our audience (Experiment #1 and #4 are all about this one goal), and then grow that audience far beyond what it is now. We have a message that more people need to hear, and we’re doing everything we can to get it out there.

[VIDEO] The Find Your Niche Formula: How to Choose a Unique Niche That Makes Money and Makes Competition Irrelevant

Picking a niche can feel overwhelming.

Is it too broad?

Is it too narrow?

These are tough, but great, questions to ask yourself.

One of our students recently asked us this question:

“Should I niche down my online business idea, How do I pick a niche for my online business? Is it too broad, too narrow?”

To answer this question best, we decided to jump on camera and get into the nitty gritty details of niching your business.

Before and After: How 6 Course Creators Redesigned Their Websites for More Email Subscribers and Sales

Before and After: How 6 Course Creators Redesigned Their Websites for More Email Subscribers and Sales

“I don’t have a blog, can I still create a course or product?”

“I hate my website! It’s impossible to use. I can’t even edit it myself!”

“I want to start my online business, but step 1 is having a website and I literally have no tech skills and no idea where to start.”

For the past year, our readers and students have been telling us about their website struggles.

And we’ve been listening :)

So for a year, we tested and tweaked and optimized.

We studied what makes a website that converts.

Not a website that was “pretty” or “cool” - but one that actually converted MORE email subscribers and made more sales on autopilot.

How could we create the perfectly organized, optimized website just for course creators and infopreneurs like us? What would that look like?

How we redesigned the Femtrepreneur website to function better, convert more subscribers, and make more sales.

How we redesigned the Femtrepreneur website to function better, convert more subscribers, and make more sales.

The site is looking slightly different today!

Finally, after a year of not updating the site in any real way, we updated the design, the template, and the functionality of our home base.

As you may know, all of our sites are on Squarespace. We looooove Squarespace and are obsessed with how easy it is to use and edit.

The biggest change is that we switched templates.

We had been suing “Bedford”, a Squarespace template, for about a year. It had served us really well. Our site converts hundreds of email subscribers every day.

But we also came to be bothered by certain limitations of the template. Just little tiny things that I couldn’t do to make the site look the way I wanted it to.

We switched to “Pacific” and it solved 99% of those issues! We love this new template. It’s super flexible and can do anything we want!

All in all, this project took about a day and a half to complete.

Why we switched to Teachable to Host and Sell Online Courses (And 6 Reasons Why You Should Too)

Why we switched to Teachable to Host and Sell Online Courses (And 6 Reasons Why You Should Too)

Last August, I made the switch to Teachable for hosting and selling all of my online courses (which are my entire business!).

To be honest, I hesitated to “make the switch” for a long time before we did it.

See, when I first started creating and selling courses years and years ago, a lot of the technology that we rely on today did not even exist.

(This is why I am constantly telling you that you are SO lucky to have these software resources at your disposal that are both easy to use and amazingly robust. I’m not bullshitting when I say that NOW is the best time to create an online course.)

So when I first started selling courses, I had VERY limited options.

I chose the cheapest path. I set up email courses, connected everything with a $10/month payment gateway, and manually did EVERYTHING.
